Importance of pathya (Proper diet regime)

“Every food substance we eat has a medicinal value. Its said “naasti moolam anoushadam” which means there is no root which is not medicinal. Hence proper pathya ahara along with medication helps heal best and helps cure from the base.”

Before I begin with the details let me give you a couple of examples:
1)A cat when gets a stomach upset eats only doorva or called as darbha in Sanskrit and lives..,mkk['. i.e.it realizes that its stomach is upset due to some improper diet and hence it decides to take a day off from regular food and eats only doorva which is considered as a digestive herb in ayurvedic literatures.
2)A dog when gets indigestion vomits and then again intakes the same vomitus.it ensures free flowing of abdomainal gases and hence helps it recover from indigestion.

Moral of the story is that though animals are considered to be less intellectuals than the man ,it still has the ability to understand whats good for its health and whats not. Man is a social animal too, more intelligent and innovative than others but why dont we realize the importance of diet? our intellectual has reached a point where we need the support of medicines to cure our ailments.

But there is a very simple and straight way to ensure healthy life and get rid of diseases soon .Its pathya ahara (proper diet regime).

Every food substance we eat has a medicinal value. Its said “naasti moolam anoushadam” which means there is no root which is not medicinal. Hence proper pathya ahara along with medication helps heal best and helps cure from the base. By taking medicines we just reduce the symptoms of a disease but do not cure it completely. By doing the right pathya we even help the medicines to cure us and not just give symptomatic relief.

As they say there is no short cut to success ,same way there is no shortcut to get cured completely. It has to be achieved by medicine and aahara both.

Ayurveda rightly says:
“pathyesati gadarthasya kimoushadha nishevanaihi
Pathyeasati gadarthasya kimoushadha nishevanaihi”

Both lines do look similar. First one says when pathya can only cure a disease what is need of medication ? Second line says what is the use of giving medication when pathya is not done?
